“Fantastic” support felt at Moose FM Spirit of Giving Radiothon

The community stepped up for the 107.9 Moose FM and Kinsmen Club of Prescott Spirit of Giving Radiothon on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The radiothon at O’Reilly’s Independent Grocer gathered $1,471.36 in cash donations. Another $2,500 worth of groceries was donated. And more than five OPP cruisers were stuffed full of donations of other foods, diapers and toys for kids.

All will go to families in need this holiday season.

Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says the donations show the incredible generosity of people throughout the entire region.

“It’s fantastic,” he said, in an interview at O’Reilly’s. “It’s not just Prescott, it’s surrounding communities; Cardinal, Johnstown, Spencerville, even Maitland. People come out.”

“They all shop here at this great store. This store is so good to the community. They’re constantly giving back. We appreciate that they allow us to come here.”

Shankar says he knows, from pasts radiothons, how special the donations are. Last year, he helped donations turn into more than 300 “phenomenal” gift baskets so that families, struggling to pay bills over the holidays, were able to have turkey dinners and gifts under their trees.
