Police continue to engage with the community

Police out in the community on foot engaging with the public creates a positive perception in the community.
That’s according to Grenville County OPP Constable Dave Holmes, who says the department practices foot patrols on a regular basis, including a foot patrol in Prescott over the weekend.
Holmes says they want to be more visible, especially during high-traffic times, and he says they are bringing back an old practice of community engagement.
He believes it’s the best way to get to know members of the community.
“We are frequently coming by individuals who are experiencing a crisis situation with insecure housing or no housing whatsoever, foot patrols give us that opportunity to proactively engage and identify.”
He says that way they can make sure those who need assistance get it.
Holmes says being out and about also shows what policing work is all about.
“We are there to help you, we are not there to arrest and charge people which is what I think sometimes people get hung up on, when we’re talking to someone out on the street.”
Holmes adds it also allows new recruits to learn more about the areas they are working in.
