Ontario Provides Over $1.5 Million To Help Municipalities Maintain Critical Services Amid Pandemic

Local municipalities are getting a hand from the province to help address ongoing COVID-19 costs.

On Monday, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Steve Clark announced that the Ontario government is providing $1,572,680 to help municipalities maintain critical services needed during the pandemic.

Clark says this funding will also ensure capital projects stay on track.

“Our municipalities have been clear that they need ongoing operating funding in 2021, and it is important that we step up and provide that support so our municipal partners can continue to deliver the services Ontarians rely on each and every day,” Clark said.

This funding is part of Ontario’s $500 million investment to help ensure the stability of the province’s 444 municipalities as they plan for the year ahead.

The investment builds on the $1.39 billion in operating funding given to municipal partners through the joint federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement.

Here’s how the funding breaks down:

  • Township of Athens – $27,821
  • Township of Augusta – $57,116
  • City of Brockville – $329,527
  • Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal – $58,025
  • Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley – $74,634
  • Township of Front of Yonge – $25,480
  • Town of Gananoque – $77,263
  • United Counties of Leeds and Grenville – $434,358
  • Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands – $108,744
  • Village of Merrickville-Wolford – $27,468
  • Municipality of North Grenville – $130,787
  • Town of Prescott – $66,935
  • Township of Rideau Lakes – $140,382
  • Village of Westport – $14,140

The province will provide its next update on Ontario’s finances and the government’s plan to continue the fight against COVID-19 in the 2021 Budget, which is expected to be released on March 31st.
