New Support Service Aims To Connect Residents In Merrickville and North Dundas To Better Resources

A free support service is being offered to help residents find resources to address issues they’ve faced during COVID-19.

The Bruyère Research Institute has launched an Access to Resources project (ARC), to help connect residents in Merrickville and North Dundas to resources that can help deal with financial issues, mental health, and other difficulties they may face.

Nicholas Kathen is a Patient Investigator with Bruyère, and he says they want to lend a hand in any way they can to help people cope with the pandemic.

“We want to help people overcome the consequences of COVID-19 in the areas of income stabilization, mental health, isolation, and any other needs,” Kathen said. “I’m sure as people are aware, the pandemic has brought on increased needs for these resources. So, we’re really linking people to those resources that can help them overcome those barriers.”

To align with physical distancing, ARC Navigation services are delivered through a safe communication platform that allows video conferencing, telephone or other virtual communication at the individual’s preference.

Kathen says the program also helps those in need of social support, physical activity, personal safety, food security, parenting tips, and other areas.

“We want to help people remain kind of healthy and stable in the community and give them an overall good sense of well being,” Kathen said. “Hopefully, the pandemic doesn’t happen again but we do hope this model gets integrated into Ontario Health themes, and that it can be seen in other areas besides Merrickville and North Dundas.”

Anyone who would like to hear more about the project can contact Kathen directly.

You can check out the Institute’s website for more information.
