Upper Canada District School Board Announces Return Dates For In-Person Learning

Return dates have been set for in-person learning by the Upper Canada District School Board.

The board announced Wednesday that schools in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit – or schools in Stormont, Glengarry and Dundas, Prescott-Russell and Cornwall will continue remote learning until February 10.

Meanwhile students in the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit will be back in school on Monday.

The board says this school year has been about balancing students’ academic needs and the obligation to keep them, and staff, safe while at school.

“While we want to see all students back in our schools, we understand the government’s decision to remain vigilant to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to keep our students and staff safe,” the board said in a statement. “We need to ensure that we continue with daily screening for symptoms and follow public health protocols that are in place.”

Due to having separate health units that covers a large area, the board is proceeding in a number of ways.

Elementary schools in the Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark Health Unit will welcome students back to in-person learning on January 25.

If a student lives in EOHU but attends school in LGL, then they can attend.

Those grades 9-12 in the health unit area will continue with remote learning until January 29.

Elementary and secondary schools in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit will continue with remote learning until February 10.

If this extended period of remote learning requires your family to change how your child is receiving instruction, you’re encouraged to talk to your child’s teacher or school principal.

High school students in the EOHU area will continue with remote learning until February 10.

Students with special education needs currently attending in person can continue to attend school in-person during the extension of the school closures.

If you’re not sure which jurisdiction your school is under, or if you need more information – you can head here.
