MyPrescottNow’s Most Read Stories of 2020

It has been quite the year for the people of Prescott and area.

COVID-19 dominated headlines this year, starting with the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Leeds-Grenville.  Prescott Mayor Brett Todd made headlines when he declared a state of emergency in late March. There were also consequences for breaking public health regulations, as an open salon in Leeds-Grenville was slapped with fines after failing to meet guidelines under the province’s state of emergency.

Our most read story this year was about Lindsey Vergette-Lamoureux and Darsey O’Hara. Vergette-Lamoureux was diagnosed with stage four cancer and O’Hara planned to have a final farewell journey to Hawaii. You can read the couple’s story here.

Many of our top stories this year revolved around crime. From a double homicide in Brockville, to a massive cannabis bust, robbery, and altercations, police had a busy time in the region in 2020. OPP also said this year they were still looking for 31-year-old Brockville man who had been missing for 2 years.

Prescott also welcomed a second Tim Hortons in 2020. It is the second branch in town and is under the same owner Shawn Lockett. Lockett also says he has plans to open another location in Iroquois.

And finally, Josh Young made headlines this year for being selected by Thousand Islands Habitat for Humanity. Young, a single father from Cardinal, said the new home would make things easier for his kids. You can read about Young’s story here.
