UCDSB takes possession of land for new Brockville school

The Upper Canada District School Board has acquired property at 550 King Street West in Brockville, which will be the future site of a new school.

According to the school board, the plan is to build a new school for Kindergarten to Grade six that will accommodate up to 500 students on the 14.33 acre parcel of land. The school will also have dedicated child care spaces and an EarlyOn Centre.

The Ministry of Education is investing $14.3 million in this project and it will now move into the design phase.

UCDSB Chair John McAllister says the project has been on the horizon since 2017, so they are very happy to have been able to secure this piece of property.

“This is great news for our school district and the families in Brockville. This school represents a true commitment to education and our community. It will be a top-of-the-line facility that students will be able to flourish in for years to come.”

The school board says the design of the school will be modeled after Bridgewood Public School in Cornwall and the Kemptville Public School.

The UCDSB is looking into options to install solar panels, electric car charging stations and other features to make the school environmentally friendly.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark says he looks forward to continuing to work with the board and government on the project as they continue to invest in the future of students by providing them with a world-class education in the community.
