Students asked to wear pink to stand up to bullying

Tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day across the globe. The initiative aims to address bullying at schools, workplaces, homes and online.

Students within the Upper Canada District School Board and Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario are encouraged to wear pink to stand up to bullying.

This year’s theme is ‘Lift Each Other Up,’ by taking kindness to new heights.

Pink Shirt Day started out with a small act of kindness in 2007. David Shepherd, Travis Price and their friends organized a high school protest in Berwick, Nova Scotia to help a peer who was being bullied for wearing pink. The group bought and distributed 50 pink shirts to stand in solidarity with the student.

Since then, the anti-bullying movement has grown to include people in nearly 180 countries.
