Neon Night raises $100,700 for childhood cancer research

The Neon Night Fun Run brought in $100,700 for childhood cancer research. The event was held on Saturday night at Riverside Park in Kemptville.

Around 850 people took part this year. Gee’s Gang was the top team, with over $11,000 raised.

Organizer Christina Thompson says the committee is completely grateful to the community for its support. She noted this type of success wouldn’t be possible without community backing and all the businesses that sponsor Neon Night.

The event has brought in over $450,000 for childhood cancer research in just six years.

Thompson says 100 volunteers helped out and 18 childhood cancer survivors – known as Neon Night Warriors – participated in the event. She explained the warriors are knighted annually.

Thomspon says it’s such an inspiring part of the ceremony because it really brings it home why the community is there supporting Neon Night. She noted it shows that people don’t think children should be dealing with these types of cancer treatments and things need to change.

People can still donate to Neon Night until the end of October. Next year’s Neon Night is set for September 19.
