World Day Against Trafficking in Persons: OPP officer talks internet safety for kids

People living in small towns tend to think of human trafficking as something that only happens in big cities, but Community Safety Officer Annie Collins says that’s not true.

Collins is offering parents some advice ahead of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a human trafficking awareness initiative held every year on July 30th.

Collins says kids spend more time online ever since the start of the pandemic, which could lead to them being targeted by child predators.

“So, let’s try and keep [children] as safe as possible,” Collins says, “by having computer access in open areas of the house, not in their bedrooms, making sure their accounts are private and locked down, and ensuring that you are aware of who they’re talking to.”

Collins says if you have any questions about how to keep your kids safe online, you can call the Grenville County OPP detachment.
