Design Discussion in the Works for Prescott Splash Pad

The Town of Prescott is discussing what design will be used for the new splash pad.

CAO/Treasurer Matthew Armstrong says at last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, staff was directed to monitor the parking in the centennial park area over the summer to determine available spaces at various times of day.  Staff will include additional washrooms into the design plan and continue to look for alternatives for the base of the play structure, according to Armstrong.

There were multiple options for the playground base presented in a report by Director of Operations Dan Beattie. The first option was to leave the base as is, but because of how close the splash pad would be to the playground, sand may go into the splash pad area. According to the report, there is no additional cost up front with option one. The second option was a full replacement of the playground base to a rubberized material with an estimated cost over $53,000. The third option was to look at other alternatives.

Armstrong says the community group will be consulted to provide theme ideas in order of preference. Those will be brought back to Council for final consideration.

No date has been set to begin construction.
