Prescott 2021 Budget Nearing Final Approval

Prescott is close to giving the go-ahead for its 2021 Budget.

Council has been examining the budget since December, and following months of review and adjustments, it seems to be heading toward a final approval.

Mayor Brett Todd says COVID-19 has impacted financial decisions this year, they’ve managed to keep that impact to a minimum.

“We’ve been very careful with our overall spending, and we’ve managed to accommodate it for the most part. At the same time over the last year, we’ve managed to give back to the community with grant programs we established for not-for-profits, and what we’ve done to support our businesses.

According to the town, $2,850,500 will be put toward priority projects in 2021.

The more notable reconstruction projects include the Dibble Street East project, between Edward Street and Boundary Street, and the Edward Street overpass,

Mayor Todd says aside from these projects, the big focus for this year is going to be downtown revitalization, and rejuvenation of the town’s waterfront.

“We’re looking at things like a rejuvenation street-scape plan for the downtown, and King Street,” Todd said. “And along the waterfront, we’re investing in an active transportation study that we’ve received grant funding on as well, and we’re going to top that off with a few more dollars so we can rejuvenate all our waterfront pathways and everything in Kelly’s Bay as well, with some work happening along the beach.”

Todd says they expect to have it all finalized at their next council meeting on March 15.
