Augusta Farmers Market Set To Return For Second Year

The Augusta Township Farmers Market is back for a second season.

Starting in early April, vendors from across the community will be returning to MERC Hall in Maitland, where they’ll be selling handmade crafts, baked goods, and other items.

Laurie King is a volunteer with the market and she says they wanted to give residents a reason to get out and about, and give vendors a chance to sell their wares.

“It’s just helping the local farmers and crafters in the area to make a bit of money that they’ve been losing during the pandemic,” King said. “And also, to get people out with protective guidelines in place.”

In its first year, the market did surprisingly well despite COVID-19.

King says customers and vendors were all very accommodating with sticking to public health guidelines, which made for a smooth season last year.

She feels there’s nothing quite like being able to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a market like this.

“There’s nothing better than a fresh made muffin, cake, donut or fudge,” she said. “And people sell jam, honey, and pickles, so, there’s nothing better than going to a farmers market and being able to bring that kind of stuff home.”

King says the market will include 23 vendors, with plans to expand later in the Summer.

The market will kick off on April 3rd, running every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until mid-June.
