Public being asked to provide input on Autism Program

People can have their say about the Ontario Autism Program. Public consultations will launch in May, through an online survey and telephone town halls.

Minister Steve Clark says the government announced enhancements to the autism program in March. He says funding for the program doubled to more than $600 million.

Clark says he is looking forward to hearing from families in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes about how the province can best support children with diverse needs on the autism spectrum.

Consultations will run for one month. An advisory panel of parents and autism advocates will be established. It will include experts in psychology, behavioural analysis, rehabilitation services, education, developmental pediatrics and research.

The panel will review the results of the survey and telephone town halls and provide advice to the government later this summer.
