Day of Mourning Ceremony

April 28 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT

Free

The Leeds and Grenville Labour Council will join Canadians across the country in observing the National Day of Mourning on Sunday, April 28th. A ceremony will be held at the Brockville Museum to solemnly reflect on the lives lost, and the injuries sustained, in the workplace. All are welcome to attend the ceremony.

This year, Canada’s unions are marking the Day of Mourning by calling on decision-makers to take immediate and concrete action to make work safe. An alarming number of workers are still getting injured, falling ill, or dying from unsafe work. Workers need proper protection and adequate information to keep them safe, while decision-makers have a responsibility to strongly enforce the Westray law to ensure that employers aren’t cutting corners at the expense of workers’ health and safety.

As part of our ceremony, our guest of honour, Jennifer MacKinnon, will share her story on how a seemingly simple workplace injury has changed her life forever.
