Canadian Border Security Agency travel suggestions

The Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) is suggesting anyone planning to cross a border this weekend think ahead.

The CBSA say they are anticipating a heavy volume of traffic passing through ports of entry in Eastern and Northern Ontario on the Civic Holiday weekend. Representatives at CBSA say if you want to avoid delays your best bet is planning ahead.

They say regardless of what you have planned it is best to cross at non-peak hours to save time. They suggest crossing in the morning, especially on Sunday or Monday, because most lineups start building at the border in the afternoon and carry into the evening. Travellers crossing at the Lansdowne port of entry should be aware there is currently construction taking place. As a result there may be delays due to a reduced number of processing lanes. Their advice to people crossing during peak hours is to use the Prescott port of entry.

Some other CBSA tips to speed border crossing include; check border wait times and cross at the least busy port of entry, know your purchases and have travel documents on hand, be sure to declare all purchases or acquisitions when entering Canada, know what is inside your vehicle, pre-registration of travel information for private boaters and, when in doubt, ask a CBSA officer.
