Canada 150th celebration improvements

Preparations for Canada’s 150th birthday are well under way in Prescott.

At Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting Mayor Brett Todd and the councilors discussed ways they might add to the already scheduled Canada Day festivities.

Councilor Teresa Jansman brought forth a community complaint that there were too few picnic benches at Centennial Park to properly accommodate visitor traffic during the summer. Following a brief discussion the council members agreed that a few tables were a practical investment that could be met using the existing budget.

Council also suggested the event be turned in to an all-day family affair, like Canada Day celebrations in the past. While the committee did not finalize specifics they did decide the remainder of the Canada 150 budget would be spent on ensuring the celebration lasted from noon through to after the fireworks.

All money being spent on these improvements will be coming from already defined budgets.
