Patient Safety a key focus at Brockville General Hospital

Last week was Patient Safety Week and Brockville General Hospital got involved.

Chief of Staff Dr. David Goldstein says hospitals are busy places and patients typically have more than one health care provider working with them. Communication between the patient and the clinical team is the most important tool in maintaining patient safety. Patients should feel comfortable asking questions and getting involved in discussions regarding their care.

Understanding medication is key to maintaining patient safety. Know the names of your medications, and their prescribed dosages. Ask questions about side effects and potential allergic reactions or interference with other drugs. If you make any changes to your medication, keep your records up to date. Communicate with your clinical team and ensure all of your health care providers are kept up to date on your file.
