Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution is warning customers about hydro scam in the area

Rideau St. Lawrence Distribution is warning people about a phone scam in our area. Victims are getting calls from a person posing as a utility employee. They tell the customer to pay up via wire transfer or prepaid credit card or their electricity will be disconnected. RSLU always provides customers with account details when they call and they don’t accept wire transfers or pre-paid credit card payments over the phone. Chief Financial Officer Peter Soules told Coast FM yesterday that the scam is now starting to pop up within their area.
