Brockville Braves to team up with TISS in new co-op program

Brockville Braves co-owner Dustin Traylen is excited to be leading the way for a new initiative that is set to spread across the Junior A hockey league. A new program between the local hockey club and Thousand Islands Secondary School will make it easier for young athletes to succeed in school without taking their mind off the game.

Traylen told the Recorder the high school day will include two regular academic classes at the school, an online course and a high performance co-op activity, including on- and off-ice hockey skills training. TISS already has a High Performance Athlete Co-Op Program where games and practices count toward co-op hours. Three students – a gymnast, a provincial level soccer player and a hockey player – took part in the program this past semester.
