Iroquois high schoolers take home silver medal at Skills Ontario Competition

A team of four students from Seaway District High School are celebrating a second-place finish at a provincial construction competition.

Evan Adams, Wyatt Barkley, Connor McMillan and Cameron Stewart took part in the annual Skills Ontario Competition during the first days of May.

They worked together to build a shed, with only ten minutes of prep time to review the blueprints they were given.

“We were ecstatic and surprised to hear that we came second,” McMillan says. “We worked as a team for the most part,” Stewart adds, “but sometimes would assign a group member with a specific task if they were really good at it.”

Ashley Grant, one of the Upper Canada District School Board’s Student Success Learning Partners, congratulated the team on their success.

“Being second place out of over 30 of the top teams in the province is a big deal,” Grant says.

Adams, in grade 10, plans to compete in similar competitions over the next few years, while Barkley, McMillan and Stewart prepare to look for careers in the skilled trades as they graduate this summer.
