Partial Burn Ban In Effect For Augusta Township

A partial open-air burn ban is in effect for Augusta Township.

Fire Chief Rob Bowman says the ban still allows the burning of campfires, outdoor fireplaces, Chimeneas, and appliances with mechanical shut off such as propane or natural gas equipment.

“Some of the prohibited burns are agricultural, brush fires, burn barrels, incinerators, and other types of outdoor burning,” Bowman said. “Those types of fires are not permitted.”

Bowman says they felt the ban was necessary, given the recent dry weather residents have been experiencing over the past month.

He says the lack of precipitation also has set the current fire danger level in the township from high-to-extreme.

“We are still allowing fireworks as well, but other than that, we’re looking at conditions daily,” Bowman said. “And the conditions change daily so please, before burning, be sure to phone our open burning hotline.”
