Virtual Halloween happening in Prescott

You can enjoy some Halloween activities right now in the Town of Prescott.

Katie Forrester, Tourism & Recreation Coordinator, says the Prescott Pumpkin Parade and the Prescott Zombie Walk have been cancelled to help reduce gathering.

“Halloween spirit is still high however here in Prescott and we are doing a number of virtual events to help celebrate.”

To be entered into a draw, send in a photo of yourself participating in one or more of the virtual activities to [email protected]. Today you can wear orange and black to participate in an activity. You can also send in a photo of you in your costume or your carved pumpkin to be entered into the draw. In town there is a self-guided Halloween Scavenger Hunt happening now through October 31st. All virtual events can be found on a Facebook page here. You can also check out the different ways Prescott Public Library is celebrating Halloween as well.

Forrester also says families with children ages two to four can pre-register for contactless delivery for a Town of Prescott Trick-or-Treat bag. Today is the last day for pre-registration and can be done here. The bags will be delivered either tomorrow or Saturday.

For trick-or-treating, Forrester says Prescott is in stage three where trick-or-treating is permitted. Mayor Brett Todd posted on Facebook that the town is not taking any stance on trick-or -treating, and noted that the general health recommendation is not to go door to door.

Recommendations from the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit for trick-or-treaters include:

  • Only go out with members of your household
  • Only trick or treat outside
  • Do not leave treats in a bucket or bowl for children to grab
  • Trick-or-treaters and people handing out candy should wear a face covering. A costume mask is not a substitute for a face covering
  • Do not congregate or linger at doorsteps and remember to line up two metres apart if waiting. Avoid high-touch surfaces and objects
  • Wash your hands often and thoroughly, or use hand sanitizer, whether collecting or handing out treats.

After Halloween, Prescott will still collect and compost jack-o-lanterns on Wednesday, November 4th that are placed on the curb. Forrester says candles and any plastic is to be removed from the pumpkin.
