Walk 4 Freedom planned for October 17th in Prescott

The Walk 4 Freedom is planned for October 17th in Prescott.

Organizer Coordinator Denise March says the walk is to bring awareness to the human trafficking issue that we have in Canada, Ontario and our own backyard. March says the goal this year is to raise $10,000 to go towards opening a home for victims of human trafficking.

March says there is labour trafficking and sexual exploitation trafficking, where a person would sell another person or get them to work. March adds the person being trafficked would not be making money for themselves.

March says as of right now the walk is planned to have a staggered start beginning at 349 Churchill Road. She says they are currently working with the town and the health unit so the walk is being done under the guidelines of the Ontario Government. March says they will have a plan b of a virtual walk in place if things change with guidelines.

People looking to join the walk can register through the Beacon Bags Instagram or Facebook page, or can call March at 613-213-2859. To walk it’s a $30 registration fee, which can be done by giving the money yourself or raising the money through sponsors.

March says she will be walking one kilometre in heels for every $1,000 raised in sponsors up to five kilometres.

There will also be vendors selling their goods at the south parking lot of Giant Tiger during the event.
