OPP to conduct more patrols in Prescott while drivers get used to new speed limit

Edit: Mayor Brett Todd has said the speed limit change will be put into effect before Labour Day this year.

Original story:

The Grenville County OPP say they will be patrolling more while drivers get used to a new speed limit in Prescott.

Police kicked off a safety blitz in town on Monday after complaints about cars driving too fast. The OPP says tickets were handed out for various infractions and speeding was highlighted. They also say with Prescott lowering the speed limit to 40 kilometres per hour,  in correlation with children possibly returning to school in September, more patrols will be done while drivers get used to the new speed limit.

The OPP says personal safety is their top priority and they will help achieve this by being visible, educating drivers and enforcing speed limits.

If you see dangerous driving or suspect a driver is impaired, call 911 immediately.
