Local Health Unit says COVID-19 tests have come back negative so far

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit say there are still no cases of COVID-19 in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville.

Yesterday, Medical Officer Doctor Paula Stewart says they’ve tested many people and they’ve all come back negative. She says what has changed over the past week though is Ottawa now has a significant number of cases and we border Ottawa. Stewart also says COVID-19 has really taken hold of the United States, so a lot of people who have tested positive in Ontario have come back from the states.

“What it now means is that, it’s closer than it has been so far and while the risk continues to be low here, we need to do all we can to keep it that way.”

Stewart says if anyone has traveled to any place internationally they should stay at home and self-monitor for shortness of breath, cough or fever for 14 days. She adds we really need to think about keeping our distance from people and how we can support vulnerable people in our community.

Stewart says you will not be tested for COVID-19 if you do not have any symptoms. She says monitor yourself for symptoms, stay at home if you do have symptoms, call your primary care provider, public health or Telehealth to get an assessment whether those symptoms fit for testing and then you’ll get direction where to go for testing.

If you do get tested stay home and keep to yourself, even away from other people in the home. It is taking three to four days to get the test back now, according to Stewart.
