10 consecutive LGSSAA wins for local soccer team

The St. Michael Catholic High School boys soccer team is on a streak. The Mustangs won the Leeds & Grenville Secondary Schools Athletic Association (LGSSAA) championship for 10 consecutive years. The tournament was held last week.

The Mustangs advanced to the Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (EOSSAA) championships, which wrapped up yesterday at South Gower Park in Kemptville.

Coach Wesley Campeau says over the last decade, the team has won EOSSAA five times and this will be his sixth time taking the team to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championships.

The Mustangs will head to Ancaster, near Hamilton, for OFSAA. The tournament runs Thursday and Friday next week, with the medal round set for Saturday.

Campeau says the team has only medalled once at OFSAA, back in 2010.

There are 19 players on the team, ranging from grades 9 to 12.
