Same-day counselling for mental health & addictions now available

Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health (LLGAMH) now offers Rapid Access Counselling. People can now go to the organization’s offices in Kemptville, Prescott, Brockville, Gananoque and Smiths Falls and be seen that same day. People are encouraged to call ahead to ensure a session is open.

CEO Laurie Dubé says LLGAMH was unhappy with wait times for counselling, which could be up to a year. She says the organization also found that around 30% of booked appointments were no-shows. Dubé says what that tells her is appointment based services don’t meet the needs of people.

LLGAMH started to look at innovative ways to address client needs and launched the Rapid Access Counselling pilot project. The evidence based initiative provides people with counselling when they need it.

Tim Mack, Director of Clinical Services, says the pilot went extremely well. He says there is no more wait times for counselling.

Dubé says the winner is the client because when you knock on the door, there is a skilled person there ready to help you.

Rapid Access Counselling is available five days a week at the LLGAMH offices.  Mental health services are open to people 16 years and up and there is no age restriction on addiction services.

The office in Prescott is located at 1652 County Road 2, just outside of town. The number is 613-925-5940.
