BGH staff reduces ultrasound wait times

The Brockville General Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Department is bringing down wait times for ultrasounds. Staff have managed to decrease the wait for many exams over the past few months.

Manager Benjamin Yam says in the past, patients could be waiting months for an exam. He says the wait time was not ideal for patient care.

There used to be a three-month waitlist for general ultrasounds and echocardiograms came with a three to four-month wait. Staff have brought that down to three weeks for ultrasounds and six weeks for an echocardiogram.

Yam says the department was gradually able to increase the daily workload by 25 per cent. He says a new echo sonographer was recruited to work on the weekends to cut down on wait times.
