OSPCA Rings in New Year with Annual Polar Bear Plunge

The Ontario SPCA Leeds and Grenville Animal Centre raised over $2,000 in their annual Polar Bear Plunge.

The event took place at Centeen Park in Brockville yesterday. Youths and adults braved the cold water of the St. Lawrence River. ACA1 at the centre Michelle Murphy says the money will stay in Leeds and Grenville.

“It (the money raised) goes to a lot of different stuff. One of the biggest things is veterinary care. Anybody who has pets knows that veterinary care can be expensive and when animals need that care we need the vets, they’re our lifeline.”

Murphy says the plunge is every January unless it’s postponed due to weather.
