New Term of Council Begins

The Town of Prescott’s Councillors were sworn in this evening for the 2018 to 2022 term.

The first meeting was held in the newly renovated Council Chambers in Prescott’s Town Hall.

There is one new member this term, Gauri Shankar. He joins reelected Councillors Leanne Burton, Teresa Jansman, Lee McConnell, Mike Ostrander and Ray Young. Shankar says it’s been a long wait but it feels good to officially be a Council member.

“I’m looking forward to making a difference and to doing the best we can for this town. We know the challenges we have ahead of us it’s now let’s put actions to words.”

Brett Todd was acclaimed as Mayor after the October Municipal Elections. Mayor Todd noted that Ray Young was absent as his wife recently passed away and will be sworn in later this week.

Former Senator Bob Runciman administered the oath of office for all members of Council.  The St. Lawrence Academy Choir sang the Canadian and American national anthems. Ogdensburg Mayor Wayne Ashley was also in attendance.
