Prescott Negotiating Contract with Agency for Water and Wastewater Facility Operations

The Town of Prescott is in negotiations with an agency for water and wastewater treatment facility operations and maintenance.

At last night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Director of Public Works & Infrastructure Dan Beattie talked about Prescott being in negotiations for a new contract. The town issued a request for proposals in August. The town received two submissions with Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) being the top contender. Five staff members and consultants reviewed the submissions individually. OCWA is the current provider and the town is anticipating a savings of $104,000 in 2019 under the new contract. Councillor Teresa Jansman notes the savings will be placed in reserves for the treatment facilities and calls the savings “absolutely significant.” The reserves will be used to address capital replacements and improvements in the upcoming years.

Beattie says this was an extensive process that included mandatory site visits in September and they are currently negotiating final details of the contract. Mayor Brett Todd says this is the same provider but even better contract.

Prescott’s CAO/Treasurer Matthew Armstrong says this is approximately a 15-perent savings for the town. The new contract will be for five years with an option for an additional five years.
