Council Will Be Looking At Prescott’s Memorial Bench Program

Council will be reviewing the Memorial Bench Program in Prescott .

Prescott’s Committee of the Whole have recommended that plaques memorializing someone will be placed on existing benches.

Matthew Armstrong is Prescott’s CAO and Treasurer and says in Prescott there are over 90 benches with around 60 of them able to be purchased to dedicate to someone. The cost of a plaque would be between $400 and $500.

Armstrong says they want to look at a rational and analytical way to add new benches to the town. He says moving forward they would put plaques on benches that already exist but if there was really a push for a new bench then they would look into that possibility.

Armstrong explains the cost of one new bench and plaque would be between $1,500 and $2,000 and installation would be around $1,000. Mayor Brett Todd said the town should be absorbing the cost of the installation if someone is paying for the bench and plaque.

Todd suggested there has to be some way to tailor the program instead of just tossing it out.

Right now, Armstrong says, there are around 30 commemorative benches in town. He notes they want to look into deciding on one standard style and material for benches.
