Friends For Life! Walk Returns

Walkers can enjoy going a new route this year to support local animals.

The Friends for Life! Walk is a fundraising event put on by the Ontario SPCA Leeds and Grenville Animal Centre. This year it will be happening on Saturday, September 22nd.

Marianne Carlyle is the Manager of the centre and says the walk will be downtown at Blockhouse Island near the tunnel.

Admission is $25 for adults and the centre is asking for pledges in the name of animals or the centre. The registration fee helps cover the costs of putting on the event. The proceeds raised from the pledges will be going back to the Leeds and Grenvillle centre. Carlyle says the money go towards the cost and care of the animals, including vaccines.

“We don’t have a veterinarian on staff, but we work with the local veterinarians: Island City Animal Hospital, Prescott Animal Hospital as well as Brockville Animal Hospital. Those are the three local (hospitals) that support us.”

The funds the centre receives also determine how many animals they can house. Carlyle adds this event is one of the largest fundraising events for the centre. This year’s goal is to raise $14,000.

Animals from the centre will be downtown for the event and there will be a barbecue available. Check-in begins at 8:30 that morning and the walk begins at 9:30, to register for the walk click here.
