BGH Entrance Roadway Will Be Temporarily Reduced

The redevelopment project at the Charles Street Site of the Brockville General Hospital will cause the entrance roadway to be reduced to one lane next Wednesday, August 8th.

Construction crews will be completing a new electrical substation. Traffic will be temporarily rerouted starting at seven a-m that morning and the Hospital is anticipating the work will take six to eight weeks to complete. Traffic will be detoured to the emergency vehicle entrance, which is off of Ormond Street.

Patients who want to park onsite will only be able to access the emergency and visitor lot from Ormond Street. People dropping off patients will be asked to use the emergency vehicle entry lane and follow the signs to go back to Ormond Street or the visitor parking lot. Staff, physicians and volunteers, who have parking permits for the visitor lot, will be able to enter the lot off of Ormond Street, beside the emergency vehicle entry lane.

The Hospital says this change will not affect emergency vehicles and signs will be posted to ensure everyone’s safety.

The signs include a speed limit sign of 20 kilometres an hour and will be placed across the Charles Street property. BGH says for pedestrian safety, speed bumps will be installed near the emergency entrance. Additional signage will be installed at any entry and exit points and security will also be made available to assist with directing traffic.
