According to the OPP boating fatalities are at an eight year high.
The OPP say there were 31 deaths on waterways they patrol in 2017, up from 23 the year before. OPP East Region Acting-Sergeant Tina Hunt says there are steps you can take to stay safe before heading out on the water.
Of the 54 deaths over the last two years the OPP say 42 of the victims were found either wearing their life jackets improperly or not wearing them at all. Hunt says while out on the water you can take steps to avoid disaster.
