April is Gun Amnesty Month with the OPP

April is going to be Gun Amnesty Month for Ontario police.

The OPP, and participating municipal police services, will be participating in the program in an attempt to get illegal weapons off our streets. According to the OPP the program is for any resident who wants to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition.

During the program police will not recommend weapons charges that might otherwise be applicable to people who are turning these items over. The OPP do add that they will not be offering amnesty to people who turn in weapons that have been used in a crime and they will not be accepting anonymous submissions.

Parties interested in taking part can set up a date by calling the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or by going here. The OPP is stressing that under no circumstances should guns or ammunition be brought to a police facility.
