Light At The Tunnel For Cold Ontarians

Ontario residents who have been sitting in the dark this winter will soon have their power reconnected.

The provincial legislature passed a bill on Wednesday ensuring hydro companies cannot turn a customer’s power off during the winter if they do not pay their bills.

Leeds-Grenville MPP Steve Clark says anyone who currently has their electricity shut off will have it reconnected within the next week.

Clark says this is a step in the right direction, but thinks Ontarians could’ve received help sooner. He says all parties were supportive of the bill, even though the opposition parties presented the bill on Tuesday which was turned down, only for the Liberals to come back with their own version of the bill, which was passed the next day.

Clark still notes that there is a real energy poverty crisis within Ontario due to the mismanagement and privatization of the utility.
