With the warmer weather arriving, the OPP is reminding snowmobilers and fishing enthusiasts to be safe around ice.
The OPP says to check the weather and staying off the ice during warm or stormy days. Don’t travel on ice after consuming alcohol or drugs, have a buddy with you, make sure someone knows your destination and arrival time, and carry a small survival kit.
If you’re not sure about ice conditions, stay off.
St. Lawrence Seaway Management also advises residents to take the coast guard’s advice as to when it is safe to put pleasure crafts back in the water.
