Heath Unit Warns About Ticks During Hunting Season

The Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit wants those participating in hunting season to be aware for ticks. Deer ticks can carry Lyme disease and can transmit the disease after being attached to your body for 24 hours. The health unit suggests taking precautionary measures such as wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent that contains deet, and showering after coming in from outdoors. A tick cannot transmit Lyme disease if it is not attached for less than 24 hours. If a tick is attached for longer than that, contact your health care provider.
