A new report finds chronic homelessness in our region has been reduced by 32 per cent.
The information is part of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s annual homelessness and housing update which was a part of the last joint services committee meeting.
The report states that the counties goal was to reduce the situation by 18 per cent at this point in time.
It says that referrals to connected services and emergency shelter units as well as short-term hotel stays are helping people before they become chronically homeless.
Data for the report was collected from the ByName List which tracks the amount of homeless people in the region.
Chronic homelessness is defined as individuals or families experiencing homelessness continuously for a year or more, or those who have had at least four episodes of homelessness over the past three years totaling 12 months or more.
