Ottawa Senators fans are feeling a mix of emotions after the surprising trade of team captain Brady Tkachuk.
With many celebrating Father’s day festivities on Sunday afternoon, news broke that Tkachuk had been traded to the Florida Panthers in return for three first round and one second round draft picks.
While a move was never out of the question, with many believing that Tkachuk wanted to play with his older brother and fellow American Matthew on the Panthers, actually seeing the player who had been with the team for eight seasons and captain for five moved caught many off guard.
Play-by-play voice of the Senators, Dean Brown, tells Moose FM that’s because he was a beloved member of the squad.
“The Ottawa fanbase by and large loved Brady. He did a lot here, he achieved a lot, did a lot for the community, was very giving of himself, lots of autographs, lots of involvement and really connected with kids. That’s why fans loved him.”
Many fans will be waiting for the release of next season’s NHL schedule so they can see when Tkachuk’s first trip back to Ottawa will be.
