Municipal leaders are throwing their sticks in to support Spencerville being named Hockeyville.
With the Kraft Hockeyville nomination and rally phase heading into its final week, the leaders will come together on Saturday, Feb 21 at the Alaine Chartrand Community Centre in Prescott to show their support for the Spencerville Arena.
Organizers say the elected officials from Edwardsburgh Cardinal, Augusta, Prescott, and North Grenville will add their names to the Spencerville Arena Hockeyville banner as a symbol of regional support for the arena and its role in community life across the region.
The banner will then remain on display at the Prescott Arena until 3 p.m., allowing community members, hockey teams, and arena users to continue adding their names before it returns to Spencerville for the final week of the campaign.
Kraft Hockeyville is an annual competition sponsored by Kraft Heinz, the National Hockey League and the NHL Players’ Association.
Communities compete to demonstrate their commitment to hockey. The winning community hosts an NHL preseason game while also receiving $250,000 towards upgrading their arena and $10,000 in youth hockey equipment.
