Wellington House Adding 128 Spaces Through Construction Of New Building

A big expansion is coming for long-term care in Prescott.

MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Steve Clark announced Thursday that Wellington House will be adding 68 new long-term care spaces, and upgrading 60 spaces, as part of the province’s investment in 80 new long-term care projects.

Clark says this announcement ensures that seniors in the community will have safe, modern spaces ready for them.

“Long term care beds for our seniors is one of our top healthcare concerns, and the quality of care at Wellington House is wonderful,” Clark said. “And it’s going to be even better now that we can expand it and provide more opportunities for new and upgraded services that are built to modern standards.

The project will see Wellington House create a 128-bed home through the construction of a new building.

In addition to modernizing the long-term care sector, these projects will help reduce waitlists and end hallway medicine.

Clark says this announcement builds on the government of Ontario’s promise to add 15,000 long term care beds to facilities across the province.

“We’re now up to 20,061, with an additional 15,918 being redeveloped, so we’re far exceeding the initial promise of 15,000 but the announcements really make sure that our seniors have access to a high quality space.”

Clark adds that Wellington House is one of three expansions the government has announced since it was elected in 2018, following Bayfield Manor in Kemptville, and Mapleview Lodge in Athens.
