UCMHL Officially Cancels 2020-21 Season

It looks like local minor hockey is being put on the back burner for the 2020-21 season.

In a letter from the Upper Canada Minor Hockey League, the league said it has decided to cancel its upcoming season in its entirety due to Ontario regulations surrounding COVID-19.

“Unfortunately, after examining Ontario’s regulations which only permit a maximum league size of 50 players even while in Condition Green, along with direction from the Public Health units from across the Branch, leaves the District One Executive in the unfortunate position of having to cancel the 2020-2021 season of the UCMHL in its entirety,” League President Scot Easton said in the letter.

Meanwhile, the Kemptville District Minor Hockey Association will continue to scrimmage as long as it is able – at the discretion of the District, the health unit and in conjunction with Hockey Eastern Ontario’s Return to Hockey protocols.

This will allow players to practice in order to maintain skills and keep them active.

The District will continue to meet regularly with the hope of resuming play in the UCMHL for the 2021-2022 season.
