Girls Inc. Release Bios on Strong, Smart and Bold Honourees

Girls Incorporated of Upper Canada have revealed a little more about the Smart, Strong and Bold Women of the Year Honorees.

Brandy Smith, Evelina Oosterhof, Jane Hess, Karen McDonald-Hurley and Marianne Carlyle were selected from public nominations as this year’s recipients. Smith is a Community Engagement Coordinator at the Brockville Public Library that Girl’s Inc. say creates a vibrant, safe and inclusive community space. She is also involved in the annual Community Clean Up and Transition Brockville.

Oosterhof is Leadership Trainer of the Girls Everywhere Meeting the Saviour program, which brings girls together every week to work and play according to Girl’s Inc. She started in the program as a girl and rose to her position today.

A nurse of over 40 years Girls Inc. describe Hess as a visionary leader within the Health Unit and community at large. They say she’s an advocate for the vulnerable population and seeks to address social injustices.

Girls Inc. say what sets McDonald-Hurley apart from other entrepreneurs is her dedication to people and their dreams. They say she’s been a Girl’s Inc. girl since she was young and does it now because it’s a way of life.

Finally Carlyle is described as a consummate professional that is resourceful, empathetic and positive. She is a Manager at the local SPCA branch and has been induced into the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame.

The celebration honouring these women will be held at the Brockville Convention Centre on May 17th.
