The Health Unit and Fire Department Want You to be Prepared

The Prescott Fire Department and local health unit want you to be prepared.

This week is Emergency Preparedness Week and both groups have tips on how to make the best of a bad situation. Fire Administrator with the department Tracy Day says they suggest families have an emergency survival kit. The kit should contain all the basic items needed to remain comfortable for 72 hours. Day suggests a number of items.

She suggests checking the contents twice a year to make sure the food and water are still fresh. She adds that there are some tips you may want to follow if you have pets as well.

The fire department are also providing specific tips for different hazards, like staying away from moving water if there is a flood. Kim McCann, Senior Public Health Inspector with the health unit says a big key is being aware of upcoming hazards like the recent wind storm. McCann says you need to be conscious of those around you during emergencies.

Prescott Fire Department are partnering with other local fire prevention groups to set up displays with information at Prescott Town Hall and the Independent.
