OPP Release Update on Last Night’s Crash that Closed the 401

The OPP has released some details about last night’s collision that closed the 401 Eastbound.

According to police at around 6:00pm they responded to a crash between two transport trucks and two passenger vehicles between Blue Church Road and Merwin Lane. The OPP says a truck carrying a load of steel rolls lost control at the construction site and struck a rock bed in the South ditch. The impact caused the steel to come loose and strike another transport. This caused the second transport to collide with the two passenger vehicles.

The driver of the first transport was transported to hospital by Air ORNGE with serious injuries. The second truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the two passenger vehicle drivers didn’t sustain injuries.

At the time of this article’s publishing one lane on the 401 Eastbound remained closed and the OPP is continuing their investigation.
