Breaking: Gauri Shankar seeking re-election as mayor of Prescott

Gauri Shankar says the decision to seek re-election for mayor in the Town of Prescott was an easy one to make.

After first being elected as a councilor in 2018 and then being acclaimed as mayor in 2022, Shankar officially announced on Monday afternoon that he is running in the 2026 municipal election.

Shankar says Prescott and the surrounding area is heading in the right direction but he adds things take time and he wants to see what can be accomplished in another four years.

Shankar tells Moose FM that he’s hitting the ground running in this election.

“The old saying is you can’t please everyone so I’m sure there are (candidates) out there who would like to run for election and I wish them all the best.”

So far, Shankar is the only candidate to officially enter the race for mayor in Prescott.

Election day is Oct. 26.
