The next municipal election may not be until next year but preparations are already underway.
Prescott Town Council voted earlier this week to have all electronic voting for the Oct. 2026 election which Prescott Mayor Gauri Shankar says will save around $20,000.
Shankar says there multiple reasons for having voting done by internet and telephone only including efficient vote counting, enhanced security and making it easier for residents to cast their ballots.
“With a paper ballot you can only be in one real location in case there’s any tampering or handling of the ballot.”
For voters that still prefer to attend a physical location to vote during the voting period, a help centre will be set up at the municipal office during the advance voting period and on election day to assist with the process.
